National Dance Day is celebrated in the United States annually on the third Saturday in September to create awareness about dance. This year National Dance Day is observed on September 19. It also encourages people to welcome dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and combat obesity.

History Of National Dance Day

“So You Think You Can Dance” co-creator and Dizzy Feet Foundation co-president Nigel Lythgoe founded National Dance Day in 2010. When the day achieved national recognition in 2010, a long-time proponent of healthy lifestyles, American Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton stepped up. She introduced a resolution to promote a national day for dance education and physical fitness.

National Dance Day aims to promote physical fitness and dance education and to bring attention to governments, leaders, and get support to enable the dance community to promote their artwork. On this day you can see a dance performance. You can also take dance classes to improve your skills. The types of dances you can learn Ballroom, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Line Dance, and Square Dance.
