Today in this article, we\u2019re going to teach you how to take a screenshot in Windows 10. Sometimes you are thinking about how to take a screenshot on a laptop or you maybe need a snip & sketch tool in Windows 10<\/p>\n

Don’t worry. You\u2019ve come to the right place.<\/p>\n

There are so many reasons why you might want to take a screenshot in Windows 10. A screenshot can be useful for quickly showing someone what\u2019s on your desktop, or grabbing a quick moment from a video that you need to share with someone else. Windows 10 has built-in functionality to take a screenshot and it’s very easy to use.<\/p>\n

Here are three built-in Windows screenshot keyboard shortcuts, most of which will also work in earlier versions of Windows.<\/p>\n

Print Screen<\/h2>\n

The old screenshot standard still exists in Windows 10. Press the PrtScn<\/em> (or Prt Scr<\/em>) button on your keyboard and your entire screen will be copied to the clipboard. After that you can paste it into Paint, GIMP, IrfanView, Photoshop, or any other photo program that allows you to paste in an image.<\/p>\n

If PrtScn<\/em> isn’t working on your laptop, you need to press a Fn<\/em> or Function<\/em> key to copy. Many laptop vendors have started to combine key functions to save space.<\/p>\n

Many newer laptops have combined the PrtScr button with other keys so you’ll have to press a separate Fn or Function key to access it.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

PrtScn + Windows key<\/h2>\n

An upgraded version of PrtScn<\/em> available since Windows 8 is Windows key<\/em> + PrtScn<\/em><\/strong>. Tap two keys simultaneously and your screen will \u201cblink\u201d for a second.<\/p>\n

Then Open File Explorer, navigate to Pictures > Screenshots<\/em>, and your screenshot will be saved there.<\/p>\n

If your laptop features a combo key, then you might need to press Windows key<\/em> + Fn + PrtScn<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Print just the current window<\/h2>\n

If all you need is a screenshot of the current program you\u2019re using\u2014such as Chrome, Word, Excel, or PowerPoint\u2014tap Alt<\/em> + PrtScn<\/em>. That will copy an image of the window currently in focus to the system clipboard. Just like using the PrtScn<\/em> shortcut, you can then paste the image into the photo-editing or other image-friendly program (like the Gmail web app).<\/p>\n

Use Windows\u2019 Snipping Tool<\/h2>\n

Windows has a built-in Snipping Tool that lets you capture a custom chunk of the screen, then mark up, save, and share that image.<\/p>\n

Choose a shape for your screen grab and then select the area you want to \u201cclip.\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

To get started, click the Start <\/em>button, type snip<\/strong>, and then click the Snipping Tool<\/em>. Next, click the New <\/em>drop-down and select the desired shape of your \u201csnip.\u201d<\/p>\n

You know the program is ready to snip when your screen dims\u2014don\u2019t freak out. If you\u2019re not quite ready to snip yet, just click Cancel until you are.<\/p>\n
