Although WarnerMedia is also in a dispute with Roku, it sounds like those companies are closer to a deal that will bring HBO Max to Roku devices soon.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"emo emo-sb\">\n<h6 class=\"nav-title\">Mentioned in this article<\/h6>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Fortunately, Fire TV users don\u2019t have to wait for Amazon and WarnerMedia to resolve their money squabbles. Instead, you can get HBO Max\u2019s expanded catalog and new-and-improved app right now by sideloading the Android TV version onto your Fire TV device. (For more on what HBO Max offers, and how you can upgrade from an existing HBO subscription, head to our explainer.)<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, here\u2019s how to get the HBO Max app on any Fire TV device:<\/p>\n<h2>Enable Fire TV sideloading<\/h2>\n<p>In Android circles, the term \u201csideloading\u201d refers to installing an app from outside of any official app store. Because Amazon\u2019s Fire TV software is based on Google\u2019s Android operating system, sideloading lets you run pretty much any Android app on your Fire TV Stick, Fire TV streaming box, Fire TV Cube, or Fire TV Edition television.<\/p>\n<p>Still, installing apps from outside Amazon\u2019s store is somewhat of a security risk, so the feature is disabled by default. To enable sideloading on a Fire TV device, head to the Settings menu, then scroll over to \u201cMy Fire TV.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"large \"><a class=\"zoom\" href=\"https:\/\/images.idgesg.net\/images\/article\/2020\/06\/myfiretv-100847793-orig.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img border=\"0\" alt=\"myfiretv\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" data-imageid=\"100847793\" data-license=\"IDG\" data-original=\"https:\/\/images.idgesg.net\/images\/article\/2020\/06\/myfiretv-100847793-large.jpg\" class=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/a> <small class=\"credit\">Jared Newman \/ IDG<\/small><\/figure>\n<p>In this menu, select \u201cDeveloper options,\u201d then toggle both ADB debugging and Apps from Unknown Sources to \u201cOn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll see a scary-sounding warning when you enable latter setting. Just hit \u201cTurn On\u201d when prompted. Once you\u2019ve installed HBO Max, you can always disable sideloading to keep other external software out, and you\u2019ll still be able to use Max without issue.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"nativo-promo nativo-promo-1 smartphone tablet desktop\" id=\"\"\/>\n<figure class=\"large \"><a class=\"zoom\" href=\"https:\/\/images.idgesg.net\/images\/article\/2020\/06\/firetvdev-100847794-orig.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img border=\"0\" alt=\"firetvdev\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" data-imageid=\"100847794\" data-license=\"IDG\" data-original=\"https:\/\/images.idgesg.net\/images\/article\/2020\/06\/firetvdev-100847794-large.jpg\" class=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/a> <small class=\"credit\">Jared Newman \/ IDG<\/small><\/figure>\n<p>Finally, you\u2019ll need an app called Downloader to install the HBO Max app from the internet. You can either use your Fire TV\u2019s voice search to find the app, or you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/AFTVnews-com-Downloader\/dp\/B01N0BP507\" rel=\"nofollow\">install it remotely to your Fire TV<\/a> through Amazon\u2019s online store listing.<\/p>\n<h2>Download and install the HBO Max app<\/h2>\n<p>Here\u2019s where things get tricky: To install the HBO Max app, you\u2019ll have to locate its APK file online, then use the Downloader app to load and install it. As of this writing, the most recent version is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apkmirror.com\/apk\/warnermedia-direct-llc\/hbo-max-stream-hbo-tv-movies-more\/hbo-max-stream-hbo-tv-movies-more-50-0-1-45-release\/hbo-max-stream-hbo-tv-movies-more-android-tv-50-0-1-45-android-apk-download\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">available on a site called APKMirror<\/a>. I\u2019m going to create a short link to the actual APK file so you can easily install it through Downloader app.<\/p>\n<p>First, make sure you <strong>do not have HBO Now installed already<\/strong>. On your Fire TV, press and hold the Home button, then select \u201cApps.\u201d If you find HBO Now in your app list, press your remote\u2019s menu button, then select \u201cUninstall.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"large \"><a class=\"zoom\" href=\"https:\/\/images.idgesg.net\/images\/article\/2020\/06\/hbonowuninstall-100847789-orig.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img border=\"0\" alt=\"hbonowuninstall\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" data-imageid=\"100847789\" data-license=\"IDG\" data-original=\"https:\/\/images.idgesg.net\/images\/article\/2020\/06\/hbonowuninstall-100847789-large.jpg\" class=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/a> <small class=\"credit\">Jared Newman \/ IDG<\/small><\/figure>\n<p>Now, open the Downloader app, and click \u201cAllow\u201d when prompted. Then, navigate to the \u201cBrowser\u201d section. Alternatively, Amazon\u2019s Fire TV remote apps for <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/amazon-fire-tv\/id947984433\" rel=\"nofollow\">iOS<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.amazon.storm.lightning.client.aosp&amp;hl=en_US\" rel=\"nofollow\">Android<\/a>\u00a0include an on-screen keyboard, which you can use to copy and paste links from your mobile browser.<\/p>\n<h2>Running HBO Max on Fire TV<\/h2>\n<p>Once the installation is finished, select \u201cOpen\u201d in the pop-up window to run HBO Max for the first time. You\u2019ll be able to create a profile and enjoy a much larger content library than what\u2019s available in HBO alone.<\/p>\n<p>The only notable quirk here is that you\u2019ll still see an HBO Now icon on your Fire TV home screen.
